Miniaturization of device dimensions towards the nanoscale can offer clear advantages in terms of operation speed, device density and sensitivity. CMOS integration of nanomaterials is therefore expected to enable breakthroughs in computing, communication and sensing.
In our newly established lab we aim to probe quantum physics on a meso- and macroscopic level using mechanical oscillators coupled to an optical cavity field through radiation pressure. This is a relatively new research field, typically referred to as optomechanics.
